The Global Campus of Human Rights is glad to announce the launch of the third edition of the GC Visual Contest, open to photographers and video-makers, professionals and amateurs, from any part of the world. The visual contest will be open from 1 May and will accept submissions through 30 June.
The theme for 2017 is “Memory and Reconciliation”. Memory and how do we envision the past has a potent impact on the creation of the present and future of a country and the current understanding of human rights concerns.
The GC Visual Contest originates from the belief that photography and videos are powerful tools that can raise awareness and push for social change. Furthermore, the purpose of this contest is to create a network of artists, intellectuals and professionals interested in strengthening the protection of human rights and the promotion of democracy and peace.
An international jury comprised of renown international photographers such as Giles Duley, Poulomi Basu and experts in documentary including Isabelle Gattiker, General and Programme Director of the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Geneva will select the best photos and videos.
We encourage students and Alumni of the Global Campus network together with professional photographers and video-makers to submit their entries and foster debate and reflection on the theme “Memory and Reconciliation”.
The best pictures and short videos could receive special mentions at the discretion of Partners such as EMERGENCY and the winning ones will be presented at the Opening Ceremony of the European Master’s programme in Venice at the end of September 2017 and at other events and ceremony at Regional Masters of the Global Campus in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Caucasus, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, South East Europe.
This initiative is funded by the European Union and receives the patronage of the United Nations Regional Information centre for Western Europe (UNRIC).
