Dr. Jorge E. Taiana
Jorge E. Taiana holds a degree in sociology from the University of Buenos Aires. He has been a researcher at FLACSO and at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina (CONICET). He has lectured at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Quilmes, in Argentina, among other institutions. He is a board member of the National Council for Foreign Affairs (CARI) and of the Professional Council of Sociology in Argentina.
In 1989 he was appointed Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina and subsequently he served as Ambassador to Guatemala. In 1996, and for the following five years, he became the Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC. In 2003 he was appointed Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Commerce and Worship. In 2005 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Commerce and Worship, a position he held for the following five years. Between September 2010 and February 2011 he held the role of "Special Representative" on behalf of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Currently, he is the Director General of the International Centre for Political Studies (CIEP) at University of San Martin (UNSAM) in Argentina.
Jorge Taiana has shared his expertise in international affairs and human rights in numerous conferences and publications around the world. He has also been distinguished and decorated by several countries and institutions.
