Since 2007, EIUC has cooperated with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to programmatically support some Russian universities, interested in establishing a Human Rights Master’s Programme. The European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) served as an example and reference for this process.
In spring 2009, the decision was taken by the Russian Friendship University, University of Humanities, and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations to set up a Consortium to run a Master’s Programme in Human Rights. In July 2009, a Memorandum of Understanding between EIUC and the Russian Consortium on cooperation, in particular, but not exclusively, with regard to the Master’s Programme was signed. In September 2009, the pilot phase of the Human Rights Master’s Programme was launched in Moscow with the participation of 15 students from all the participating universities.
Since then professors from EIUC are invited to 4-5 days lectures visits to Moscow and the Russian students have the opportunity during the second semester to conduct their research on the topics of their thesis in some EIUC universities. Students also regularly participate in the Venice School of Human Rights.
