Regional Programmes
in Human Rights and Democratisation

Each one of the seven Regional Networks of the Global Campus represent a Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation. The Programmes cover a wide range of core disciplines connected with law and social sciences. While sharing a number of common features, each one of them offers unique regional insights, nuanced perspectives and rich professional experiences.

Graduates from these Regional Master’s Programmes are active in the full spectrum of the human rights profession in governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental organisations, such as the un and the eu, in post-conflict peace operations, diplomatic missions, humanitarian and development programmes, the corporate sector, media enterprises, and educational institutions.

Marcel Van Maastrigt (EMA Graduate 2000/2001)

PAfter having worked in two UN missions, the E.MA was an opportunity for me to sharpen my knowledge of international human rights instruments and practises. The course, through its broad approach, prepared me further for diverse positions, from a temporary post at the UNHCHR office in Geneva to various field functions with UNHCR. The E.MA functions furthermore as a network of people working in HR or IHL-related organisations allowing for a direct connection between academic training and working in the HR ‘field’.

The field experience in supporting refugees and asylum-seekers in the Balkan region has provided me with relevant understanding of the country's responses towards the increased migration flows, but ERMA has contributed significantly to not only deeper comprehension of the migration politics I was initially interested in, but also a grasp of human rights dimensions in philosophy, literature, law, international politics.

The ARMA gave me an opportunity to meet and interact with academics and students from all over the world, this diverse context and living in Venice and Rabat was truly an amazing experience. In addition to learning and gaining so much information about human rights institutions and how they work I also made life time friendships and memories that are unforgettable.
