General Description

The Venice Academy of Human Rights is a centre of excellence for human rights education, research and debate. It forms part of the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation which is a leading institution for research and education in Europe.  The mission of the Venice Academy is to provide an enriching transdisciplinar forum for emerging ideas, practices and policy options in human rights research, education and training.  The Academy hosts distinguished experts to participate in critical and useful research, innovation and exchange of current knowledge.

The Academy offers interdisciplinary (International Law, Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Religious Studies) thematic programmes open to academics, practitioners and Ph.D./J.S.D. students from all over the world who have an advanced knowledge of human rights. A maximum of 50 participants is selected for each session.  Participants attend  morning lectures, afternoon seminars and workshops.  An important part of the programmes is the opportunity to participate in high level round table exchanges of views, ideas and arguments with leading international scholars and other experts. This includes the opportunity to present and discuss the "work in progress" such as articles, theses, books, chapters of books or practical projects.

At the end of the session, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance issued by the Academy.
