The Human Rights Village

The Human Rights Village aims at becoming a Centre of excellence in the world for an holistic model of teaching, training, research, advocacy, democratisation, peace, justice, democracy, sustainable development as well as other interrelated issues.

Managed by EIUC, the Human Rights Village centres on the Monastery of San Nicolò and extends into its surroundings such as, once it will be available, the Caserma Pepe.

It is a joint effort by EIUC, the City of Venice and other partners to develop the already existing EIUC activities in San Nicolò with the aim of creating a unique global platform for human rights events.

Among the activities which are already in place and those which will be developed in the coming years there are:

  • Master programmes (such as the E.MA Programme and the Global Campus project)
  • The Venice Academy of Human Rights
  • The Venice School of Human Rights
  • The Training Centre for Executive Education (TCEE)
  • The Village Market Place (i.e. workshops; Diplomatic conference etc.)
  • The Village Arsenale (such as PHD seminars; advanced research workshops)
  • The International Society for fundamental rights
  • Porta Europa
  • The European Leadership programme
  • The EXPO on Human rights (in cooperation with the Biennale of Venice).

Currently, the Dean of the Human Rights Village is Prof. Fabrizio Marrella.
